The industrial design and choice of palette in FF7 was amazing. I’ll always be disappointed that the pre-rendered backgrounds are so small that I can’t have enormous prints of them.

This meshes with a thing I wrote last year!
Not that I’ve played far in the game (just past the part where you meet Tifa) but I get a vague Super Mario RPG-characteristic vibe from these backgrounds. I probably was not meant to feel invoked by that even if both games were made by Square and, at one point, developed around the same time.
That’s just me though.
